Advises for your stay abroad

Who isn´t dreaming of experiencing a different culture and getting away from the daily routines of life in Germany?  For some of our students a stay abroad is a mandatory part of their studies, for others a semester in a foreign country is voluntary. So why don´t you pack your bags and embark on an adventure of a lifetime? Spend a study semester at a foreign university or do your internship abroad!

However, going abroad is not as easy as it sounds and needs carefully planning and preparation. Remember, you are not visiting this country as a tourist – you will be living there for one semester! Preparing for this takes some time and effort. Your willingness, flexibility and initiative are needed. But most important, begin to plan your stay abroad well ahead of time! You should start with the planning and preparation process about one year in advance. Contact your international office for information and assistance regarding your stay abroad.

The International Office (Akademisches Auslandsamt) can assist you if you want to:

• study one or two semesters at an university abroad
• do an internship abroad
• attend a language course
• work during the semester holidays
• write your thesis.

Master students also have the possibility to attend postgraduate study programs as well as projects around the world.

• support during the search for an appropriate internship (e.g. at a university abroad)
• addresses of organizations offering internships or holiday jobs
• information on universities abroad
• addresses of language schools abroad and providers of language holidays
• application tips
• consultation about financing possibilities
• information on visa procedures, insurances and anything else that might be necessary.
